Winter At Bay

our steps almost fell in line

with the shadows of the trees

planted in odd little rows

along the path.

the flowers were confused,

sending out one last round

of cheery blooms

before dismal winter

settles in for a few months,

leaving us chilled and frozen.

but whenever we're together

we can hold winter at bay,

no matter how hard it snows

or how the wind blows

we can hold winter at bay.
